Adjetivos y adverbios en inglés

1. Diferencia básica
Los adjetivos describen sustantivos: a careful driver (un conductor cuidadoso), perfect English (inglés perfecto).
Los adverbios describen verbos: drive carefully (conducir con cuidado), speak perfectly (hablar perfectamente).

2. Formas
Muchos adverbios terminan en -ly: quickly, seriously, carefully, heavily.
Los adjetivos normalmente no terminan en -ly.

3. Excepciones
Algunas palabras con -ly son adjetivos: friendly, lovely.
Algunas palabras tienen la misma forma como adjetivo y adverbio: fast, hard, late.
Ejemplo: She is a fast runner (es una corredora rápida) / She runs fast (corre rápido).

4. Adjetivos después de ciertos verbos
Algunos verbos van seguidos de adjetivos, no de adverbios: be, look, feel, sound, taste, seem.
Ejemplos:
• You look tired (pareces cansado/a).
• The tea tastes strange (el té sabe raro).

5. Adverbios que describen acciones
Los adverbios indican cómo ocurre una acción:
• She spoke quietly (habló en voz baja).
• The children were playing happily (los niños estaban jugando felices).

6. Adverbios que modifican adjetivos, otros adverbios y participios pasados
Modificando adjetivos: reasonably cheap (razonablemente barato), terribly sorry (terriblemente apenado).
Modificando otros adverbios: incredibly quickly (increíblemente rápido).
Antes de participios pasados: seriously injured (gravemente herido), badly organised (mal organizado).

7. Parejas especiales
• good = adjetivo: She is a good student (es una buena estudiante).
• well = adverbio: She speaks well (habla bien).
Well también puede ser adjetivo con el sentido de “con buena salud”: I don’t feel well (no me encuentro bien).

8. Hard vs. hardly
• hard = con esfuerzo: She works hard (trabaja duro).
• hardly = muy poco, casi no; suele ir antes d

¿Por qué hablas tan rápido?
Why do you speak so fast?
Porque tengo prisa.
Because I'm in a hurry.
¿Está bien tu hermano hoy?
Is your brother well today?
Sí, está mucho mejor.
Yes, he's much better.
¿Es difícil este ejercicio?

¿Corres rápido todos los días?

Sí, corro, pero no muy rápido.

No, apenas puedo caminar.
No, I can hardly walk.
¿Hay alguien en el parque?
Is there anybody in the park?
No, apenas hay nadie.
No, there’s hardly anybody.
